A Principled Nation

Anyone watch the news? Recently I have really gotten into following the news and politics. I'm not in your face about what I believe, but I do like to keep up with what is going on in the world because I think it is very important. Living in Texas, the abortion bill Filibuster that took place last night really caught my attention. I stayed up late with my good friend Faith watching the live stream of the courtroom and watched as the events unfolded before our very eyes. This bill would have shut down numerous abortion clinics throughout our state of Texas. It would have made it illegal to have an abortion past 20 weeks into the pregnancy. What surprised me the most was that the bill had 90% approval, however it failed to pass because of how outspoken and stubborn the opposing party was. Even though I do not agree with what they stand for, I have to give the democrats some credit. They do a very good job of standing up for what they believe and being outspoken about it. Look where this gets them. They stop bills from being passed, even though they have 90% approval rates. They get presidents elected, even though the popular vote is for the opposing candidate. What would it look like if we took a stand for what we believe, just like the democrats do. What would happen if our generation really took a stand for what they believe? We need to raise our new generation in the mind set of not settling for anything less than what we know to be true and right. This current generation, in my opinion, has not done the best job at standing up. Look where our country is. We are killing babies and making it legal. We promote sexual promiscuity and say it is the normal thing to do. We allow gay marriages to take place because "that's the way they were born." I ask this question. How can you be a christian and be okay with those things? You can't. If you look at God's word with an open and moldable heart you will begin to see that you simply cannot justify those things. We love the sinners, but we have to be disgusted by the sin. When we read in Romans 13:1-5 we see that everyone must submit to the governing authorities...for there is no authority except that which God has established. We must respect all authority to which God has placed above us. However, we do not have to conform to their beliefs.
"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. THen you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will."
Romans 12:1-2
We are called to have childlike faith. In other words, faith like a child while thinking like an adult. We are not called to be as unwise as children. God demands excellence. Therefore, we must make sure that everything we stand for is excellent. We must put to test the things of this world and make sure they line up with God's word. What if we put to test the things that the world exemplifies as normal? The things that we as christians have adopted into our culture and Church. Would they be good, pleasing, and perfect in God's eyes?
I want my generation to be a generation of people that stand up and are outspoken. We need to make a difference in this world. We are called to stand up for the things that are perfect and pleasing to God. The world laughs at the few who do. We need to take a stand and be salty against the world's beliefs. We could be as influential as Wendy Davis and her stand against the new Texan abortion bill. The bill will be back and reopened for debate sometime. When it does, I hope that we as Christians (and Texans) are ready to also make some noise and cheer for 30 minutes about the things that we believe and know to be true.

Think Hard and Think Well

Something that has been on my heart lately is thinking. It's funny to think that I've been thinking about thinking, but it's true. How often do you sit down and think about thinking well? Our society is spoon fed through certain types of delivery systems. So why think, when we are spoon fed like babies? Things like music, TV, and news transform our Worldview. What is worldview you ask? Everyone has a worldview. Your worldview is your framework for understanding existence. Two questions can define your worldview in it's simplest form. What is the nature of God? What is the nature of man? Every human being has an answer to this question. God placed eternity in the heart of man so how can there be a man that has not thought about eternity? "He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end" Ecclesiastes 3:11. It is surprisinly  easy to asses the worldview of an individual by simply observing their actions. Matthew 7:16 says,"By their fruits you will recognize them." Our Christian lifestyle speaks much louder than our Christian vocabulary. We often do not think about it, but we are being perceived by someone constantly. I encourage you to think hard and to think well. Logically think and contemplate the things that you allow into your mind. Do not walk through life accepting everything the world throws at you because the world spits in the face of your sweet Jesus.

Green River Ordinance Concert

I have been very blessed to share my life with miss Elizabeth! We often joke about how we love to be different and do things other people normally wouldn't do. Tonight, we had the privilege of going to a Green River Ordinance concert in Fort Worth. I had the time of my life. She never stops making me smile and laugh uncontrollably. She even got to put up with my shoving my camera in her face every change I got. This girl has encouraged me to love life and to be content with where you are in the moment. I cannot wait to see what other GRO concerts and things that God has planned in our friendships future.

Unexplainable Peace and Humility

If I was to take a vote on this topic on how many truly experience peace, I would like to think I already know the answer. Experiencing unexplainable and joyful peace is something I believe many people miss out on. Many teenagers proclaim to have obtained such peace, myself included. But not until recently have I truly encountered such a feeling, after truly surrendering to the will of my sweet Jesus. In general, it is the cool and acceptable thing to be a Christian. Therefore, many people proclaim peace in the name of Jesus and put on a mask of false Christianity. I have always been one of those people. Some even go over the top to convince others and possibly to convince themselves of their christianity. I seemed Christian in every way, but deep in my heart I lacked conviction. A name for this false humility. People do things and when asked to explain their actions, they simply say "To God be the glory!" That in fact is a humble reply. But again, when I would say this knowing I secretly wanted the glory and maybe I would share it with God. What I have learned is this. One problem with achieving humility is that it’s impossible to develop it by working on it directly. The more you focus on humility, the more you are focusing on yourself, whish is prideful. Who would have guessed that trying to become humble is prideful? In John 3:30 John the Baptist tells us, "He must become greater; I must become less." That's  simply all humility requires. To focus on Christ more than ourselves and this will cause us to be humble. Within the last couple weeks I have decided to live a life completely surrendered to the will of Jesus, wholeheartedly. Also in the last couple weeks I have never experienced a more surreal, unexplainable, and humbling peace. Philippians 4:6 "The peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." I am no where done learning about my Jesus or the subject of humility. But, I am ecstatic with excitement about the thought of beginning to truly draw close to my creator.

Kermit Gosnell's House of Horrors

A month ago I decided to submit a letter to the editor for the Weatherford Democrat. Surprisingly, it was accepted and published within a couple weeks. Below is the link for my article. I hope you read it and it encourages you to contemplate the propaganda of our society. http://weatherforddemocrat.com/opinion/x6226313/Letter-to-the-Editor-May-8-2013
